Kansas State Wildcats
The Kansas State Wildcats program is one of very few programs in the US to have one official color. The Wildcats are members of the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA Division I and have been a member of the Big 12 Conference since 1996. Before then, from 1912 onwards, they were part of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Big Eight Conference. The school's women's rowing team however, is a member of Conference USA. The university fields fourteen varsity teams and has won a record seventy eight Conference Championships, as well as numerous individual National Championships.
During the 2012 to 2013 season, the Kansas State Wildcats made history when they became the second school in the Big 12 Conference to win the football, baseball and men's basketball Conference Championships during the same season. This is but one of many firsts, that the Kansas State University is a proud owner of. Not much recently, the university was the only college in the US to have a consensus All–American in men's basketball and football. The honors were awarded to Michael Beasley and Jordy Nelson, respectively.
The Wildcats baseball team is led by Head Coach Brad Hill. The Wildcats baseball team won its first championship in 1907 and then went on to win several more Conference Championships, including the 2013 Big 12 Conference regular season championship. They have played four times in the National Tournament and have been ranked on the USA Today ESPN Coach's Poll twice; first in 2009 and then in 2010. The team has been home to Earl Woods, the first African American to play baseball in the Big Seven Conference and the father of famous golfer Tiger Woods.
The men's basketball team also has a long and storied history. It has won eighteen Conference Championships and played in twenty seven national NCAA basketball tournaments. It has been the runner–up once, been in the NCAA Final Four four times, twelve times in the Elite Eight and sixteen times in the Sweet Sixteen. It has also been ranked in the Top Ten in the US nine times as per the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll. It is also one of the 100 Greatest College Basketball Programs of All Time, as per Street & Smith's Annual.
The women's basketball team is also equally famous nationally, even more so than the men's team. It is ranked amongst the Top 15 most successful programs in the history of the NCAA. The team has played in nineteen NCAA National Basketball Tournaments and AIAW Tournaments; this places it second for the most appearances in the conference. The team has also been ranked in the Top 10 in the US three times.
The Wildcats football team has been playing since 1896 and has faced some of the toughest college's in the history of the NCAA. The team ranked first in the US in 1998 under the leadership of head coach Bill Snyder. From 1993 to 2003 the Wildcats played in eleven Bowls consecutively. In 2012, the team won the Big 12 Conference Championship and went on to play in the Fiesta Bowl in 2013.
