Guy Laliberté was travelling all around Europe as a folk musician and Busker. He met different acrobats and street artists and he wanted to bring that energy and art back to his own homeland in Quebec, Canada. He couldn’t last long enough at any of his office jobs and this kind of work fascinated him. At the end of his euro trip, he was already a stiltwalker and a fire-eater. Initially he was working with Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul which was an entertainment troupe from Baie-Saint-Paul. Laliberté was immensely impressed by their talent and thus the idea of Cirque Du Soleil triggered in his head.


The founder of Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul Gilles Ste-Croix is still considered to be the grand-dad of Cirque Du Soleil. The company officially started on the 450^th annual celebrations of Quebec with the help of the Government. This was supposed to be a one year entertainment project but its success resulted in making it a permanent troupe. Since then Cirque Du Soleil has been inspiring people with its aesthetic balance and creative genius. Cirque Du Soleil is today an international phenomenon which has conquered the hearts of its audiences in all the continents.


Cirque Du Soleil is a French name which came to Laliberté during his trip to Hawaii. It means the Circus of the Sun, for him Sun stands for passion, energy and youth.
