Michael W Smith
Michael W. Smith’s introduction to Christian music occurred at a very young age. He was brought up in a supportive family, with his father working at an Oil Refinery to support his family, and his mother working as a caterer. Additionally, his father also played minor league baseball, and in his early years, Smith too developed a deep love for the sport. But his love for music came from the time spent in church. He learnt to play the piano very young and soon joined the church choir that he had often admired from afar. He often describes the time when he, as a 10 year old, had a powerful spiritual experience that resulted in him becoming a more devout Christian. This also translated in his love for music, and the early Bible studies that he was a part of would later on affect the subject matter of his songs as well.
By 1981, Smith had scored a songwriting deal with "Meadowgreen Music". Here, he would write many gospel tracks for a number of well known artists. The people he worked for included Amy Grant, Bill Gaither, Kathy Troccoli and Sandi Patty. This job enabled him to have a closer look on how professional singers worked, which would give him a deeper insight into the industry as he himself made the transition. But the songs he wrote were powerful and meaningful and resonated pretty well with the Christian community. Some of these are sung as worship songs and hymns by choirs around the United States.
After the songwriting experience, Smith took on a different venture, this time hoping to observe how professional singers tour. He joined Amy Grant on her "Age to Age tour" as a keyboardist. In the future, when he finally did release his debut album, Grant let him join her tour again as the opening act. This would become the first time that Michael W Smith tickets would be sold. He released this record in 1983 when he was signed to "Reunion Records". The debut was called "The Michael W. Smith Project" and the album was successful enough to receive a Grammy Award nomination. The album produced his first hit single, "Friends". Deborah, his wife helped write on this song for a dear friend to them both.
By 1990, Smith had become a well known Christian music star. This was when he released "Go West Young Man", which was his attempt to crossover to the mainstream world of music. It included the single, "Place in this World" which was a hit, even with people who were not fans of Christian music in particular. The second single from this album, "Change Your World" was also a success, peaking at number one on most adult contemporary charts.
His concerts have often been defined as being worship combined with music. He continues to write such instrumental music that has renewed the concept of spirituality amongst his fans. He also advocates involvement in volunteer services and encourages his fans to do good deeds. So become a part of his circle by finding yourself cheap Michael W Smith tickets.
