The Californian hip-hop culture had influenced YG’s passion for the genre and the rapper ultimately formed the label Pu$haz Ink in 2008 with DJ Mustard. Originally the label was to be used as a promotional tool but as the group of rappers became more popular, the label was officially launched for rappers RJ, Slim 400, Tee Cee and Reem Riches. Under the label, YG released hit singles such as “She A Model” and “Aim Me”. YG’s online buzz landed him into a record deal with the most famous hip-hop label Def Jam in 2009. YG released his first single “Toot It and Boot It” featuring Ty Dolla Sign, which became an instant sensation. The song debuted at number 67 on Billboard Hot 100 and acted as a breakthrough for both artists, making them a permanent fixture in the music industry. A series of successful mixtapes followed such as “Just Re’d Up 2” and “The Real 4Fingaz”, both having Billboard charting singles.
