With his father into singing and music, "Snoopy" developed an interest in music at a young age in piano and by singing at a church. It was the same time around that he started rapping. Along with his cousins Lil ½ Dead and Nate Dogg and Warren G, a friend, Snoop started recording music and made a mix tape which was given to Dr. Dre, an influential record producer who gave Snoop a listen and called him for audition. Recognizing the talent in him, Dr. Dre provided Snoop his breakthrough.
He gained tremendous exposure by singing for a film Deep Cover and by singing for Dr. Dre’s debut album. This exposure made sure the success of his debut album, Doggystyle. The album which was recorded under the label of Death Row Records was a gangsta rap album containing Billboard topping hot singles like "Gin and Juice" and "Who I Am (What’s My Name)?" Around this time, Snoop also went through a murder trial on which a film was made with the title, Murder Was the Case. Later SnoopDogg started his own record label, Doggy Style Records.
Snoop Dogg’s next album was titled The Doggfather and featured a different style of rap than the first album but fans and critics found it a little difficult to digest but it was successful nevertheless. After the expiry of his contract with Death Row Records, Dogg signed with No Limit Records of Master P and released three albums under this new label, Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told, No Limit Top Dogg and The Last Meal in 1998, 1999 and 200 respectively. He changed to EMI Records after that and released a new album titled, Paid the Cost to the Bo$$ in 2002 which brought Snoop his slightly dwindling fame back.
The next album of Snoop came out in 2004 with the title, R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece. This album was released under the new label Geffen Records. Later albums of Snoop include The Blue Carpet Treatment, Ego Trippin’, Malice n Wonderland and Doggumentary which came out in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011 respectively.
