About Queen Latifah

She originally came into the industry as a hip hop artist and a beat boxer. She then began to perform as part of a group, “Flavor Unit” which was put together by DJ King Gemini, the producer. He would later on work with her in her solo album as well. By 1989, she managed to sign a record deal with “Tommy Boy Records” and released her first solo record, “All Hail the Queen”. She was only 19 years old at the time. After trying out her luck in rap, she crossed over to other genres as well, particularly soul and jazz. She had experimented with these genres in her previous works as well but had never before been classified as a soul singer. In 2004, she released her first album as a soul/jazz singer: “The Dana Owens Album”. After establishing herself as an artist of many talents, she returned to her roots in hip hop in 2008. She released an album called “Persona” in which she collaborated with a number of other hip sop artists, such as Missy Elliot as well. Most recently, she has announced that she is yet again working on a brand new record. Queen Latifah tickets for her new concert series are to be announced soon.

Queen Latifah’s career in film and television began in the early 1990s. She scored a role in a television show on the FOX network, “Living Single”. This sitcom was especially popular with the African American community living in the east coast. She even composed and sang the theme song of the program. Her real life mother played the role of the character’s mother on the show. At the same time that the show was on air, Queen Latifah began to get roles in films as well. She had a few parts in “House Party 2”, “Jungle Fever”, and “Juice”. Soon she got her own talk show as well, “The Queen Latifah Show”, which ran for about 2 years. She also appeared on the hit television show, “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”.

Up until this point, she had had a fair amount of success. But she did not truly attain the level of acclaim that she has today till she was cast in the Academy Award nominated film, “Chicago” in which she played Matron Morton. The film went onto win the “Best Picture” award. The same year and for the same role, she was nominated for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role” as well. She is one of the three hip hop artists to have been nominated in the category, the others being Jamie Foxx and Will Smith. The three are perhaps also the only ones in the industry to have excelled in all fields of entertainment.

One of her most recent successes in film was the big screen adaptation of the Broadway show, “Hairspray”. Her triple-threat talent was showcased in full in this film. This movie was a big hit among critics, and starred stars who had worked in other musicals as well, including John Travolta, and Zac Efron. The same year, she acted in the film, “Life Support” which won her a Screen Actors Guild Award, a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy Award nomination. This would later on prove to be a big year for her, because she also received a “Hollywood Walk of Fame” star.

Her work as a comedian is just as competent and so her stand up shows are bound to be entertaining. She has starred in movies such as “Bringing Down the House”, “Scary Movie 3”, and “Last Holiday” which has given her the talent of improvisational comedy. Finding cheap Queen Latifah tickets for her stand up shows will definitely be worth it.
