The Temptations Tickets
The Temptations, a quintet currently comprising of Otis Williams, Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon and Bruce Williamson was the definitive male vocal act of the 60s and 70s. Their finely tuned melodies and cultured harmonies were just what the doctor had ordered for the rise of the legendary Motown record label. Their fame and success was owed as a large part to the tutelage and guidance of Smokey Robinson and his fellow “The Miracles” mate Bobby Rogers and as well as to Motown founder Berry Gordy and music producer Norman Whitfield. After more than half-a century of crooning their way into the hearts of whole generations of listeners, The Temptations are still going strong with Otis Williams, the only surviving group founding member, at the helm.

The Temptations came together in 1960 with the seamless binding of members of the groups ‘The Primes’ and ‘The Distants’. Starting out as the Cavaliers, The Primes were essentially a doo-wop group that garnered much acclaim in the latter half of the 1950s in the Detroit area and even influenced the spawning of a counter gender spin-off, The Primettes. The “sista” act to The Primes was also famously the launching pad for the iconic Diana Ross. The Distants, founded by Otis Williams as Otis Williams & the Siberians, after picking up moderate success were facing shortage of members brought upon by the departure of two of them. The Primes themselves disbanded in 1960 and the leftover members Eddie Kendricks and Paul Williams teamed up with surviving ones of The Distants, namely Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin and Elbridge "Al" Bryant to form initially The Elgins and later settled into their groove as The Temptations under the Motown label.
Releasing nearly four dozen studio albums and charting thirty of them in the top-ten slot, The Temptations have been one of the most prolific R&B, pop and soul groups whose sound shaped the latter half of the 20th century. They set the tone with the early top-twenty attention that “The Way You Do the Things You Do” that was written by Smokey Robinson attracted as well as the chart topping hit “my girl”, which even claimed a cinematic namesake. The Temptations powered through the decades to score almost two dozen top-ten tracks on either the US or UK charts. Initially working under the music producing mentorship of the great Smokey Robinson during the better part of the sixties, the group soon found itself being steered by the steady handed Norman Whitfield. The latter saw The Temptations through their experimentation with the emerging psychedelic rock sound and teen rebellion of the 60s and 70s that resulted in tracks such as “Cloud Nine” and “Runaway Child, Running Wild”. Their masterful take on social realism was lyrically infused in the 1972 track, “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and raked in 3 Grammy awards, including one for the group itself and two others for the instrumental version and the songwriting achievement.
The Temptations did not just safely remain ensconced in their pleasantly entertaining niche but stepped out of their element and voiced their stand against the Vietnam War by recording “Stop the War Now”. In all their previous lives and latter musical reincarnations, The Temptations have epitomized the touring ensemble that fans everywhere love to watch and hear. Initially polishing up their act by taking a cue from The Miracles, The Temptations emblazoned their own image with true showmanship and debonairness.
If the Miracles could be called the heart of the Motown Sound, then The Temptations would definitely make for its soul. Six members of their rolling line-up have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well as three of their songs, "My Girl", "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" have been recognized amongst the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. So give in to your cravings for some good ol’ rock n’ roll and get The Temptations tickets now.
