About Yes

The legendary band comprising of singer Jon Davison, guitarist Steve Howe, bass guitarist Chris Squire, keyboardist Geoff Downes, and drummer Alan White has been delivering stunning performances and sell out shows worldwide since the 1960’s. Known for their unique progressive and symphonic style of music, the band has won itself millions of fans all over the world. Their distinctive use of cosmic lyrics and mystic beats in combination with extensive live stage compositions, instrumental arrangements and album art is what sets them apart from other musicians of the era. Not only do they stick to progressive rock but also experiment with other genres of music which are apparent in their work such as symphonic rock, art rock, experimental rock, psychedelic rock and pop rock.

Moreover, the forty-five year old band has produced over twenty studio albums and numerous hits till date. Their debut single ‘Sweetness’ released in 1969 was written by Jon Anderson (a former band member) and Squire. The group’s first album ‘Yes’ came out in November of the same year and was widely appreciated. What followed then was Yes’s golden period where the band produced hits after hits and carved a niche for themselves in the music industry. According to a recent survey, Yes after all these years is still quite popular with the younger generation. In a lot of these cases, the parents had a lot to do with these changing trends.

Furthermore, the band has worked with many renowned labels over the years and hence has grown tremendously. These include Atlantic, Atco, Arista, Victory, Eagle, Sanctuary and also Frontiers. With time as the group evolved, many of its members had to quit and hence new ones joined in to fill the void. Each one of the members brought with them something new and contributed to the band’s growth and success. However, due to one reason or the other, they had to leave the group and thus their association with ‘Yes’ ended. These former band members include vocalist and guitarist Jon Anderson, Tony Kaye on keyboards, backing vocalist and guitarist Peter Banks, drummer Bill Bruford and Tony O’Reill. Other prolific names include,  Rick Wakeman on piano and keyboards, lead vocalist Trevor Horn and Benoit David, Oliver Wakeman, Patrick Moraz and Igor Khoroshev. The band has also had three former session members which include Tony Levin on studio bass from 1989 to 1990, Jimmy Haun on studio guitar from 1989 to 1990 and finally Tom Brislin on live keyboards from 2001 till 2002.

In addition, ‘Yes’ is acclaimed as one of the most influential and successful progressive rock bands in the music industry. Their works have won them a number of awards and have also influenced other music groups such as Rush and Dream Theatre. Out of their twenty studio albums, nine reached top ten positions in the United Kingdom and the US charts and two of them secured the number spot in the UK charts. All in all, the band has sold a total of 13.5 million certified units in the United States. Many of their songs have also been remixed and featured in movies such as ‘The Break Up’.
