About The Mission UK

The Mission UK originally comprised of Simon Hinkler from Artery and Pulp; drummer Mick Brown from Red Lorry Yellow Lorry; and Craig Adams and Wayne Hussey. The band initially toured as The Sisterhood, playing songs that were originally created for Sisters of Mercy, among which some had been released already while some has been vetoes by their then leader Andrew Eldritch. During this time, the latter was exceedingly unhappy about their constantly covering the Sisters’ songs as well as their band title, not just because the two names were alike but also since it was what their fans came to be called. To put an end to this problem, he recorded a single and an album, releasing them as The Sisterhood. Soon enough they coined the title The Mission, following which they signed a contract promising seven albums with Phonogram, releasing their debut act God’s Own Medicine. This album was recorded with new producer Tim Palmer within six weeks. The band then toured across Europe along with The Cult as their supporting band, which culminated in getting them a high-profile spot at the famous Reading Festival. By 1986, they were all ready for their first tour of the US, performing on American TV on Joan Rivers’.

The Mission UK released their first live video for their performance of Crusade, which captured them playing before an excited noisy audience during the initial stage of their career. Energy-bursting recording sessions with producer John Paul brought the release of their second album called Children that gave them their biggest hit yet titled Towers of Strength. This single climbed up to the twelfth spot on UK Singles Chart, zooming them into the rock mainstream, which was followed by their first world tour Children Play, across South America, marking the peak of their prowess in this era. From then on the group saw unstable times, with a revolving lineup and a cycle of disbanding and reuniting thrice. In early 2008, the group took a European tour that eventually came out to include an exciting series of four concerts in London at Shepherds Bush Empire where each nihgt was dedicated to different periods of their history.

When The Mission UK broke up yet again, Hussey suggested it reformation in 2011 for doing a few live shows in celebration of its twenty-fifth anniversary. He soon made appearances along with Hinkler and Adams at performances in Leeds and London, which are arranged by the group’s longtime guitarist Mark. They then toured around Europe and UK, performing many of their classics, in addition to which they Wonderstuff and Fields of the Nephilm came along with them on certain dates. By the start of 2012, the group announced more dates in their tour that featured supporting appearances by their musical friends, The Cult. They then performed at the Download Festival, soon after which they announced the possibility of recording another album with producer David M. Allen. Their upcoming performances are all the rage among rock fans so make sure to grab some cheap The Mission UK tickets in time.
