About The Eagles

The Eagles was formed in the city of Los Angeles in 1971 by four musicians; Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner and Don Henley. The band went on to sign up with the record label, Asylum Records, a newly established label by David Geffen. Initially the band was also managed by David Geffen himself, along with Elliot Roberts. Their first ever album, “Eagles”, was released on the 26th of June, in 1972 and was produced by Glyn Johns. It turned out to become their breakthrough album as it was extremely successful. Three of its songs yielded a place in the Top 40 singles. The song, “Take It easy” from the album was an instant success as it reached the 12th spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It was written by Glenn Frey himself and Jackson Browne, another singer. The other two songs were “Witchy Woman” and ‘Peaceful easy Feeling” coming up at the 9th and 22nd spots respectively. The Eagles were propelled into super stardom with their debut album. This album continues to be considered a masterpiece even now. The Rolling Stone magazine included it in their list of ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time’ in 2003.

The Eagles second album was titled “Desperado” and it too was very successful. It reached the 41st spot on the US Pop Album charts. Two of the songs from the album, “Tequila Sunrise” and “Desperado” are considered amongst the band’s most popular songs ever. After that the band released an album called “On the Border”. This album produced the groups first ever #1 Billboard single, called “Best of My Love”. Other songs popular songs from the album included “Already Gone”, “Good Day in Hell” and “James Dean”. The Eagles fourth and next album was titled “One of These Nights”, which was released on the 10th of June, in 1975. This album is responsible for giving the band international acclaim and popularity. It was also their first #1 album and the title track form the album was the band’s second consecutive single to top the charts all over. The other popular singles form the album were “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Take it To the Limit”. “One of These Nights” later on went on to become the band’s first ever certified gold album. Then in the early part of 1976, The Eagles released a compilation album for the first time, called “Their Greatest Hits”. It is one of the highest selling albums in the history of USA, cementing their position as the decade’s most popular American group.

The Eagles fifth album, “California Hotel” was also released in 1976, on the 8th of December. This album had several hit songs, such as the #1 single “Try and Love Again”, “Life in the Fast Lane”, “Wasted Time”, “The Last Resort” and the very iconic title track “Hotel California”, which became the band’s signature song. After that came their album “The Long Run” in 1979 and was a great hit as it became hugely successful commercially. It topped the charts in America and was able sell 7 million copies.
