Encouraged by the reasonable commercial success of her first album, Patty Griffin released her second album titled Flaming Red in 1998. In her new album, she experimented with her singing style as it contained some of her high tempo rock n roll songs as well as some of the mix of mellow songs. This type of singing was very different from her first album that contained songs that were mainly acoustic in nature. Her third album titled Silver Bell was the last to be released by A & M Records, who discontinued their contract deal with her after its release. She was taken up by ATO Records by Dave Matthews afterwards, where she re recorded some of her songs that were previously done with A & M Records but could not satisfy her at that time. Her success only got higher and higher with her subsequent releases like 1000 Kisses, A Kiss in Time, Impossible Dream and Children Running Through, released in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007 respectively. Her album titled Children Running Through was featured on Billboard 200 at number 34. According to Griffin, the album was a recollection of her memories from childhood, and depicted the brighter side of life where children help you forget your woes and give you a reason to smile in this life filled with tears.
Apart from her solo performances, Patty Griffin gained much of her fame through associated acts with many other stars.
