Tired of listening to stereotypical rock bands? Craving for something different? The Moody Blues brings you music that stands out among all the rest and makes you rock along! English rock music band The Moody Blues was formed in 1964 at Erdington, Birmingham and has been active ever since except for a small break since 1974 to 1977. Currently the band includes John Lodge, Justin Hayward and Graeme Edge. Graeme joined four other youngsters to form the band that released Go Now in 1964 that provided some base for the band for public recognition. Initial years for Moody Blues were not very encouraging, faced by management problems and being unable to give much hits to get the band a kick start. Still, debut album The Magnificent Moodies was released in 1965 and provided some financial encouragement to the newly formed band. While still struggling with management issues, the band was broken in 1965 for a month before being reformed by John Lodge, Justin Hayward and the original member Michael Pinder.

After realizing the need for new and original material, the group gave some songs that were much acclaimed among listeners, like Fly Me High, Really Havent Got the Time and Love and Beauty. However, these numbers couldn’t actually make it to any higher ratings on charts, and the band felt the need for some real hard work. In 1967 they released Days of Future Passed, an album that gave the band a well desired kick start. It is still considered as one of the best rock music releases of that time, and was rated Gold by RIAA. By late 1960’s the group had transformed its singing style into a different taste, an amalgamation of classical music with modern rock, giving its music an untouched taste. Their 1968 hit single Legend of a Mind had an exquisite flute performance by Thomas, a feature that led this song high up in music charts. The song was included in their album released that year, named In Search of the Lost Chord.
The band later released some commercially successful albums in following years, including On the Threshold of a Dream, and an album that was released in connection with man’s first moon landing, named To Our Children’s Children’s Children. With every released album, the band turned more and more symphonic and complex in its music, but still the popularity graph for the band kept on climbing higher. By the time the band released its album A Question of Balance in 1970, their music had evolved from traditional rock music to something now defined as Psychadelic Rock or Art Rock. The peculiarity of Moody Blues owed a great deal to their unique experimentation with guitars and guitar related instruments, mastered by Justin Hayward.
The next two albums, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour and Seventh Sojourn, took the band’s popularity to a whole new level, latter reaching number 1 in US charts. After a couple of more albums, the band took an extended break of about 2-3 years. This came as a result of band members feeling exhausted and, to some extent as stated by Hayward, overshadowed by his personality profile. The band came to sing again in 1977, releasing their popular album one year later with the name Octave. Ever since, the band has given many more albums, almost all claiming reasonable commercial success.
