About Matchbox Twenty

Matchbox Twenty is an American based rock band which came into existence in the year 1995. The original line up consisted of Paul Doucette for rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Rob Thomas at the piano and lead vocals, Ryan MacMillan for drums and percussion, Brian Yale at bass guitar and Kyle Cook also for lead guitar and backing vocals.
 
In the year 1996 Matchbox Twenty released their first album entitled Yourself or Someone Like You. Their first single Long Day was an instant success and this album also produced hit songs like 3 A.M., Push, Back 2 Good and Real World. The last two songs proved to be the first songs of the band to have become a part of the Billboard Hot 100. It won a diamond certification as it sold 12 million copies only in America. In 2000 they released their second album titled Mad Season. It contained hit songs like If You're Gone and Bent. Bent secured first position on the Hot 100 chart. 
 
Matchbox Twenty released its third album More Than You Think You Are which included more rock music than before. This album just like previous ones contained hit singles like Bright Lights, Disease and Unwell.  Though it did not enjoy commercial success but became popular on radio and stayed there for more than a year. In the year 2003 they released their first EP which consisted of six songs. During 2008 Matchbox Twenty went on tour extensively along with Mutemath and Alanis Morissette. They toured throughout the United States and visited places like FL, Las Vegas, Hollywood and NV. In the very same year they went on a tour to New Zealand and Australia. They also went to England where they performed in Glasgow, Cardiff, Birmingham, Wembley and Manchester and also gave a memorable appearance in the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup award ceremony.
 
After these extensive tours Rob Thomas started working on his second album entitled Cradlesong. Matchbox Twenty won numerous prestigious awards and nominations. They were nominated at the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and also MTV Video Music Awards. Apart form these nominations the band won the People's Choice Awards. In the year 2000 they also won an award for being the Favorite Musical Group. In 1999 and then again in 2003 they were nominated for being the Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group twice in a row and also won the nomination for Best Rock Album at the Grammy’s for their albums More Than You Think You Are and Mad Season.
