Beginnings of a promising career
Musgraves showed promise from a very early age. Her first public performance was at a local church when she was just eight years old. A year later she penned her first song titled “Notice Me.” The multi-talented artist can play a variety of instruments now but the first one she played was the mandolin. At age twelve she also started taking guitar lessons from a local musician.
At the age of eighteen, Musgraves stepped into the country music industry and began recording demos. The young prodigy caught her first big break in 2007 when she appeared as a contestant on the fifth season of USA Network’s American Idol-styled show, the Nashville Star. She captured the seventh spot on that competition and hasn’t looked back since.
A year later she was discovered by the independent record label Triple Pop for whom she recorded two singles. A record deal with Mercury Records followed and she released her solo debut single “Merry Go ‘Round” under the label. The song became her first entry on the Billboard charts, ranking at number four on the “Heatseekers Songs” list.
Same Trailer Different Park
Kacey released her debut album titled Same Trailer Different Park in 2013. The album fared impressively on the charts, grabbing the top spot on the “Country Albums” chart and coming second on “The Billboard 200.” The album featured hit singles “Merry Go ‘Round” and “Follow Your Arrow,” both of which charted among the top ten on the “Heatseekers Songs” list. She also won two Grammys courtesy of that album, including a “Best Country Album” award. Her achievements placed her squarely among the leading names in the genre and due to her success she was soon being hailed as country music’s next big thing.
A talented songwriter
Kacey is recognized as one of the most talented songwriters on the country music circuit. Besides the powerful lyrics of her own songs, she has also earned acclaim for penning hits for other singers. She has worked as a songwriter on Miranda Lambert’s mega-hit “Mama’s Broken Heart,” for which she earned an ACA, CMA and Grammy nomination. She also co-wrote the hit “Undermine” for ABC’s drama series Nashville.
It must have been hard to top the success of her debut album but she made a fairly decent effort to do that in the form of her sophomore studio project, Pageant Material. The thirteen-track album spawned hit singles “Dime Store Cowgirl,” “Biscuits” and “High Time,” the first two of which charted on the “Hot Country Songs” chart. The album itself went straight to the number one spot on the “Country Albums” chart and reached third spot on the “Billboard 200.”
This talented singer-songwriter has ample experience on the touring circuit having opened for Katy Perry on her Prismatic World Tour. Kacey’s ten-concert tour in 2014 titled Same Tour Different Trailer was also a success. Now she is all set to join the legend, the ‘King of Country Music’ George Strait as part of one epic road trip.
