About Dixie Chicks

The formation of the band dates back to 1989. It emerged as a conventional bluegrass group in Dallas, consisting of the members Laura Lynch, Robin Lynn Macy and the Erwin sisters Emily and Martie. These girls with oozing talents, hit the local music scene with the release of their album “Thanks Heaven for Dale Evans”. Their second album “Little ‘Ol Cowgirl” promoted them as the traditional cowgirls, bearing fundamental Dallas-country sound. In 1992, Robin Lynn Macy left the band and the remaining trio released another album the following year. For the next two years, the band performed at local community festivals and music events until Laura Lynch left the band in 1995. With the addition of Natalie Maines as the new lead vocalist, Dixie Chicks reformed the band with a futuristic and chic outlook.
The combining talents of the multi-instrumentalist sisters Emily and Martie and vocal synchronization resulted in a huge commercial success for the band. Dixie Chicks’ 1998 release “Wide Open Spaces” presented them as a sensation in the modern music scene. The album topped the US country chart and reached fourth on the Billboard 200 charts. Within no time, the album went multi-Platinum in the US. The following years saw the band winning several awards including ACM, Billboard Music and Grammys in different categories. Such positive critical reception given to a relatively new band has been very rare in the music history. The next album “Fly” proved to be another hit, topping both the country and the Billboard charts and getting another Gold certification from the RIAA.
The following studio album “Home” (2002) showed the world that the band’s breakthrough and widespread fame wasn’t just a matter of luck. The album turned out to be another chart topper, hitting several international charts. It was eventually certified multi-Platinum. Their artistry and musicianship was well acknowledged by the music critics in 2003. Maintaining the past glory, Dixie Chicks won an American Music Award and three Grammys in 2003 for the album “Home” and their hit single “Long Time Gone”. The band also expanded their videography and released DVDs like “Top of the World Tour” that sold over a million copies.
But this wasn’t the end to their colossal victory as the next album “Taking the Long Way” (2006) cracked the charts once again, peaking at number one. The album was a multi-Platinum record. In 2007, Dixie Chicks won five Grammys in a row for this album and the song “Not Ready to Make Nice”. They also won a Juno Award for their exceptional work. This made the band a steady commercial performer and one of the most acclaimed music groups of all time.
The band’s popularity reached unprecedented heights and it further increased as they went on several international tours and collaborated with other renowned musicians. In 2006, the band headlined their “Accidents and Accusations” tour that covered different cities around the country, entertaining millions of fans and selling out arenas.
