Christina Perri is the daughter of Mary and Dante Perri. Her brother, Nick Perri played guitar with Silvertide, Shinedown, Matt Sorum and Perry Farrell. Christina got hooked to music at a very young age. She began to play the piano when she was only eight and then taught herself how to play the guitar.
Soon after completing a year in Philadelphia’s University of the Arts, she went to visit her father’s family in Italy to do a little soul searching while she was still writing music. After sometime Perri moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of her dream to become an artist and uploaded videos of her performing covers as well as original songs on YouTube.
Christina Perri started waitressing for a living while still in hope of entering the music industry one day. That day finally arrived when she got the big breakthrough she had been waiting for in an unexpected way. Perri’s friend, Keltie Colleen passed the song, Jar of Hearts, that was written and performed by Christina herself, to the choreographer Stacey Tookey who used it on the Fox’s hit show, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and the rest is history.
The track went viral and became an instant hit. It rose to the Top 20 on the iTunes charts in a week and landed in the Top 15 spots on quite a few other charts making Christina Perri an overnight sensation. Due to the song’s immense popularity, she was invited to So You Think You Can Dance to deliver a live performance of her hit single which later went to the first spot on Amazon’s digital singles chart. Jar of Hearts also found itself at the twenty third spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and was downloaded over two hundred thousand times in just three weeks.
