About Alice Cooper

Born in Allen Park, Michigan with the birth-name Vincent Damon Furnier, Alice Cooper started his career at the age of 16 after winning a talent show with a band he made called The Earwigs. At the time, the members only mimed Beatles Songs and and thrill of being onstage pushed the band-members into learning how to play instruments. The band changed their name to The Spiders. They was influenced by musicians like The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones and The Kinks. In 1966, the bands lineup changed a bit and it was renamed to 'The Nazz'. To avail a larger audience, the band shifted to Los Angeles. In 1968, Alice Cooper found another band by the name 'The Nazz' and changed his bands name and his own name both to Alice Cooper. He later admitted that the name change was probably the most important step he took towards success. Alice Cooper has been bringing garage rock and heavy metal music to his listeners for over four decades now.

Alice Cooper signed his first record deal with Frank Zappa's record label 'Straight Records'. The first two albums were commercial failures. Warner Bros Records, bought Alice Cooper's contract from Zappa's label. The band saw that their bizarre stage acts have a better audience in Detroit and so moved and stayed there till 1972. In 1971, after the commercial success of the song called 'I'm Eighteen', Alice Cooper recorded their last album in the three-album contract with Straight Records and this album, called 'Love it to Death', was their breakthrough album. A very successful tour followed the release of the Album which ultimately gave Warner Bros the confidence to sign a multi-album deal with Alice Cooper.

In 1973, the band released the album 'Billion Dollar Babies', which was the most successful album they ever had. Although their genre and lyrics were very controversial and their videos would often face bans in countries, their rise to fame was not stopped by anything. In fact, the controversies and attempts by politicians and media personnel to stop Alice Cooper, only helped them on their path to fame.

The 80's saw Alice Cooper experiment with different types of music specially pop. Also, Cooper faced some alchohol addiction problems. However, the shows were always sold out no matter which part of the globe he visited and the more controversies rose due to his stage performances, the more attention he gained in the media. His 1989 album 'Trash' sold a lot of copies with a hit single called 'Poison'. Alice Cooper had become a cultural icon in the 90's and made several guest appearances on shows and was featured on albums of other succesful bands like Guns N' Roses. He also toured a lot.
