About Ronnie Laws

He pursued a solo career after leaving. It was in 1975 that he came up with his debut album titled ‘Pressure Sensitive’. His famous instrumental titled ‘Always There’ was part of the album. The jazz-funk classic was so popular that numerous artists covered it. The 1978 album titled ‘Flame’ was released by United Artists Records.  It contained a 12” single ‘All for You’. He included tracks from his previous album as well. The 12” single was released in the UK and US so Laws didn’t need to release a full LP.

Laws has sung the 1980 song ‘Every Generation ‘ and the 1981 song ‘Stay Awake’. He has worked with many famous artists including Arthur Adams, Brian Culbertson, Howard Hewett, Ramsey Lewis, Huge Masekela, David Sea, Alphonse Mouzon and Sister Sledge. ‘Always There’ was performed as a tribute to Ronnie Laws by Boney James, Kirk Whalum, Rick Braun, Larry Carlton and Kenny Garrett at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1999. The EP ‘Every Generation’ which was released in 1980 was released on CD format in 2005. It included ‘Young Chile and ‘Every Generation’. Laws has been on tour with The Dazz Band and has given several hit shows.

The formation of the Dazz Band took place in the 70s. It was the idea of Bobby Harris which eventually became an eight piece lineup. Harris, Skip Martin and Pierre DeMudd handled vocals with Eric Fearman on guitar, Kevin Frederick on keyboards, Kenny Pettus on percussion, Michael Wiley on bass and Issace Wisely on drums. They were inspired by the music of Earth Wind & Fire, a band which Ronnie Laws was a part of. Their song ‘Let it Whip’ released in 1982 was a US Top 10 hit. It also got them a Grammy Award. With the release of ‘Jukebox’ and ‘Let It All Blow’ the band became more rock orientated and were dominating most music charts. Kevin Frederick and Eric Fearman were replaced by Keith Harrison and Marlon McClain in 1985 which was a huge blow for the band.

Other hits that came along with ‘Let It Whip’ include ‘Cheek to Cheek’, ‘On the One For Fun’, ‘Party Right Here’ and ‘Joystick’. The Dazz Band was always a touring band but still have their own unique identity. They have produced hit songs and golden records. They have also received Grammy awards since they formed in the 70s. The band tours alongside established artists including The Commodoroes, Kool and The Gang, Cameo, The GAP Band, Earth Wind and Fire and Roger Zapp.
The Dazz Band has performed for sold out crowds. They have performed on the greatest venues of the world including London’s Hammersmith Odeon. Even though the group has undergone many lineup changes, they still perform their original songs as good as they did with the original lineup.

The Dazz Band is currently mixing different music genres and experimenting with different techniques. They paved way for new RnB artists by introducing new forms of funky RnB music. Ronnie Laws will now join them and perform with them on their latest tour. Remember that Laws worked with the legendary Quincy Jones which most artists only dream off. With The Dazz Band, Ronnie Laws will perform his greatest hits that dominated the jazz charts. Purchase cheap  Ronnie Laws tickets to see him perform live and enjoy.
