At about the same time, Keb Mo was writing for A&M Records as well, along with arranging samples for Almo-Irving’s music. Rainmaker, Mo’s debut album was released on “Chocolate City Records” in the year 1980. He got more absorbed in the blues genre owing to his extended stay in the Whodunit Band which was led by Monk Higgins, the producer of Bobby” Blue” Bland. Keb’ Mo’, his album named after his own name was released in the year 1994, featuring two of Robert Johnson’s covers, “Kind Hearted Woman Blues” and “Come On In My Kitchen”. Mo admitted that he was significantly inspired by Robert Johnson. Just Like you, Mo’s 2nd album was released in the year 1996, featuring 12 songs of delta rhythms. For this music album, Mo received his 1st Grammy Award. The album also featured Jackson Browne’s & Bonnie Raitt’s appearances as guests.
In summer 1997, Keb featured in the TV show Sessions at West 54th. He performed along musicians Reggie McBride, Laval Belle and Joellen Friedkin to present 14 songs. Pianist from the band Blues, Dr. John made an appearance too. This particular session, referred to as the Sessions at West 54th: Recorded Live in New York was telecasted on TV as well, and then released on DVD in the later part of the year 2000. In 1998, his subsequent album Slow Down was released, featuring a total of 12 songs. Mo received his 2nd Grammy Award for this album. Then, launched in the year 2000, The Door came as Mo’s 4th album, along with Big Wide Grin, a special album for children which also featured songs from Mo’s own childhood.
2003 brought a sequence of movies for Keb Mo called “The Blues”. Martin Scorsese, the famed film director put these films together with a number of blues performers including Mo. Following these films, several other albums were made consisting of new works as well as compilations. Furthermore, in 2004, Keb Mo launched Keep It Simple, a contemporary blues album that got him his 3rd Grammy.
