Junior Brown began to learn piano when he was very young. His father used to teach him how to play the instrument and that turned out to be the spark that ignited his love for music. His exposure to country music however came from watching television and listening to radio broadcasts. Ernest Tubb became his idol and that is what had him hooked to the genre. It wasn’t long before he turned professional as a teenager in the last part of the 1960’s. He then began to learn how to play the guitar and spent a lot of the next decade honing his skills. That took him to becoming an instructor at the famous “Hank Thompson School of Country Music.” It was there that he met the icon Leon Mc Auliffe for the first time. Not only that but it was the Hank Thompson School of Country Music that gave him the opportunity to meet “Tanya Rae,” his wife to be and who would also go on to join Junior Brown as a vocalist and rhythm guitarist.
His passion for guitars led Brown to invent the famous “guit-steel.” It was a new kind of guitar that added steel to the conventional instrument. Junior Brown then re-located to Austin and he, along with his band, soon were playing at the “Continental Club” as the venue’s house group. He made his professional debut in the year 1993 with the album “12 Shades of Brown.” The album received widespread acclaim from every corner. The track “My Baby Don’t Dance to Nothing but Ernest Tubb” was one of the album’s most successful songs and was a fitting tribute to Tubb.
Junior Brown followed that up with “Guit with It” later that very same year. It received a lot of positive feedback as well especially from critics. Then came his next release which was an EP titled “Junior Brown” in 1995. Brown then released his next studio album “Semi-Crazy” the next year. It picked up from where his previous album’s ended and continued with what had by now become Junior Brown’s staple music.
Brown took a break for a couple of years in terms of releasing new albums but that ended with the magnificent “The Long Walk Back.” The album was a little different from what Brown had done before and was titled more towards the rockabilly sound. Another three year long break came before Brown came up with his next album titled “Mixed Bag” in the year 2001.
“Down Home Chrome,” “Greatest Hits,” “Live at the Continental Club: The Austin Experience” and most recently “Volume Ten” have hit the music stores to solidify Brown’s reputation as a very special talent. His music has also been adapted and played on various television programs and films. “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Me, Myself and Irene,” and “Dukes of Hazzard” have all embraced Junior Brown’s music.
Brown’s amazing talents and exploits as a brilliant country music artist have also taken him to perform and collaborate with some of the most famous names in the music world. He has been on the music scene for quite a few years now and is still showing no signs of stopping any time soon. He is now on tour once again and will soon be hitting arenas all over the country.
