Clark was born in 1977 in a logging town called Morton, Washington. It was a very small community and there were not more than a thousand people living in the whole area. Brandy did not experience the life in a big city till later in her life. The town influenced her songwriting, adding a unique quality to her lyrics and compositions.
Brandy’s upbringing was done by her parents and grandmother who also heavily influenced her taste in music. From a very young age, she was introduced to the music of some of the best artists in the history of the blues and country music. She grew up listening to singers like Patsy Cline, Barbara Mandrell, Ronnie Milsap, Loretta Lynn and Merle Haggard. Her grandmother’s influence was especially strong on her and it showed in her later writing as well. Her love for eccentric characters also grew out of her fascination with her grandmother as she later stated “my grandmother was my favorite character in life.”
At the age of nine, she started to learn how to play a guitar and also began singing and writing her own songs, with encouragement from her mother. She entered local singing competitions and musical productions to further her interest, but soon gave up and decided to pursue sports. She became good enough to be offered a basketball scholarship to college, which she accepted. However, soon afterwards she grew tired of sports and decided to go back home to reignite her interest in music.
Clark applied and got in to the famous Belmont University in Nashville to study music. She studied commercial music and was even selected to perform at the prominent “Best of the Best Showcase.” Upon her graduation, Brandy got a job at Leadership Music which introduced her to the world of music.
To date, Brandy has written numerous chart topping hits for various artists and bands. She has collaborated with big names such as Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, Darius Rucker, Sheryl Crow and Kacey Musgraves. Her song, titled “Better Dig Two,” which she wrote for ‘The Band Perry’ was her first to go all the way to the top of the music charts. It was shortly followed by her second number one hit, titled “Mama's Broken Heart” which she wrote for the very popular Miranda Lambert.
In 2013, Brandy Clarke released her debut album “12 Stories.” It was a reasonable success and made it to the top twenty five on the U.S. Country charts. The album contained thought provoking lyrics with edgy topics that most songwriters are not comfortable dealing with. The album received acclaim from both her fans as well as other established artists in the music industry and gave her the platform she needed to really kick start her career.
In 2014, she also wrote a song titled “Follow your arrows” for Kacey Musgraves which won the ‘Song of the Year’ award at the Country Music Awards. All in all, Brandy has written almost thirty songs to date for some of the best artists in the music industry. Now she is touring across the country and you can enjoy the ride with her.
