Grace Potter and the Nocturnals is an acclaimed rock band from Vermont in the United States. The band was created in 2002 in Waitsfield, Vermont. When the band first began playing music, the main genre that they performed in was indie music. They were a self-producing group and toured extensively in music festivals as well as jam bands. In a year, they were recorded to have performed in more than 200 gigs. By 2005, the band got the opportunity of signing a contract with the Hollywood Records, under which they have effectively released four amazing studio albums which have covered rock subgenres that include alternative rock, folk rock, blues rock and hard rock. The formation of the band occurred in 2002. Burr saw Potter performing to some folk songs in a venue where students hung out in on the campus site of the St. Lawrence University. Burr got in talks with Grace Potter on pursuing music on a professional level. He cited that the major influences for starting a band were The Band and also James Brown. By the spring of 2003 guitarist Tournet joined the group upon an invitation from Burr. This cemented the founding members of the band that is Grace Potter and the Nocturnals today.
