Empty Pockets Band was initially formed by Josh, Danny and Nate who grew up together in Lincolnwood playing music together since they were children. After they formed Empty Pockets Band in 2006, Josh got a part in a theatrical pay as Buddy Holly in ‘Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story’ production that was staged at Chicago’s Mercury Theatre. The show had an extended run. Danny and Nate were also featured in the play as the “crickets.” During the show they met Erika Brett Holleb who was also a part of the show as a dancer and singer.
Empty Pockets Band later on released “Not Fade Away” tribute album as part of the same production. Holleb joined the band as the female lead vocalist after which the band released their Christmas special single as well as rock arrangement which combined Baby It’s Cold Outside with Baby Please Come Home. By the time Christmas arrived, the single had managed to make it to number fifty one position at Mediabase AC chart of radio stations. The song was played all across the country on different radio stations.
Empty Pockets Band’s single during the holiday season gained even more attention and made it to number thirty six on the charts in 2009. It was also the sixth most played holiday song of the season. By November of 2009, the single was declared number one song played at Lafayette KQIS and several other radio stations belonging to different states. By December, it had made it to number thirty one and was declared by yet another station as being the most played song. The band continued to perform live in concerts and work on its upcoming debut album.
The debut album of Empty Pockets Band was released in 2008 by the name of “Under the Bed.” The album consisted of all of the bands original tracks. In an interview the members explained that the band is based on the idea of growing up. All of the tracks from the album were featured in programs of television channel Nickelodeon Drake and Josh and, Zoey 101 and iCarly. The album was well received by the audience as well as the critics. Soon they established the repute for their easy to understand lyrics and friendly compositions of the songs.
Empty Pockets Band also promoted the single Far Right Now which managed to make it to number eleven on the FMQB AC chart. Later they also released the song’s acoustic version at the Sweetwater Studios. The band also released a previously unreleased song Leaving Jackson as well. It was for a charity project of Riley’s Children Hospital. During the same year the band embarked on a tour in support of the singles and the new album. In the January of 2009, the band signed to 8th Impression/UMG Records.
