Coachella traces its origins back to the year 1993 when, Pearl Jam did a concert at the Empire Polo Club. That show demonstrated the site’s viability to host large events which later gave birth to the most iconic festival in the world, The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
Coachella was founded by Paul Tollet. It is held annually over two-weekends and spans over three days. The festival takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Lindo. It had its two day opening celebrations in 1999 where many notable artists from the music industry including The Chemical Brothers, Tool, Rage Against The Machine, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and Perry Farrell among others performed. That inaugural edition was a raging success and laid the foundations for Coachella to become what it is today. Coachella 2016 tickets are bought by thousands of music fans from different parts of the world as they gather at one location to watch their favorite stars perform for them.
Coachella did not waste too much time in becoming immensely popular. It became a regular annual fixture beginning in 2001. It was turned into a two-week extravaganza in 2012. The festival’s success reached new heights in 2014 as it welcomed more than an incredible five hundred and seventy thousand fans. There are several stages constructed across the grounds to continuously host live music including the Outdoor Theatre, the Sahara Tent, the Coachella Stage, the Gobi Tent, the Mojave Tent and the Yuma Stage which made its debut in 2013.
Coachella’s other half is dedicated to visual projects and displays including sculpture and installation art. Many of the pieces are interactive and deliver fans a real visual treat. Some of the arts that have featured in the festival over the years include Hand of man, Wave, Flockwall, La Familia Divina-Shrine, Spectralcodec Interactive Video, Beyond the Garden, Rimski’s Bicycle Piano and Copper Droopscape. Visual artists like Hotshot the Robot, The Do LaB, The Tesla Coil (Cauac) and Robochrist Industries have also made their appearances at Coachella.
