The success of Riptide
Riptide, the hit track from God Loves You When You’re Dancing’ went five times platinum in Australia and reached the sixth spot on the ARIA charts. It also became the longest charting song in Australia as it spent more than one hundred and twenty weeks in the Top 100 and became the second longest charting single in the US Billboard Hot 100.
The inspiration for Riptide came from a motel that Joy visited as a kid as he states,” As a child, I used to go on family holidays down the coast of Australia. While we were there, we would stay at this motel called Riptide. So that's where that part of the idea came from.” The song was also featured in a GoPro TV advertising campaign in the USA and many notable names like, MisterWives and Taylor Swift have performed covers of the single. The success of Riptide landed him a deal with the Atlantic Records.
Dream Your Life Away
