Passion Turned into a Career
Bentley was born into a family with no musical background except for his father who loved listening to music. The young Bentley inherited his passion from his father and started playing the guitar when he was just 13 years old. Although he did get enrolled in the Vanderbilt University after graduating high school, Bentley left college after being convinced that music was his only aim. The same year Bentley moved to Nashville at the age of 19 in the hope of getting his dream job. However the young aspirant was soon to be disappointed by the Nashville music scene after he felt largely ignored by the industry elites. Luckily, Bentley attended an evening jam session at the Station Inn bar and met a couple of bluegrass enthusiasts who motivated him to give it another try. The ambitious Bentley resumed his gig performances and landed a music research job at the TNN TV network. Hard work finally paid off when Bentley was heard by a Capitol Records exec and was immediately signed by the recording label.
Musical Releases and Accolades
In 2003, Bentley released his self-titled debut album featuring the hit single “What Was I Thinkin’?” The song topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and was followed by a series of chart smashing tracks from the album, which was certified Platinum by the end of the year. This was followed by his second album “Modern Day Drifter” that gave hit songs such as “Settle For a Slowdown”, “Come a Little Closer” and “Lot of Leavin’ Left to Do”. The album, with two number one songs and one single in the Top 5, was also certified Platinum. After giving back to back commercially successful albums, Bentley became a noteworthy artist and was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry in 2005. The third youngest member of the prestigious ensemble, Bentley was also awarded the CMA Award for the Best New Artist.
Often compared to legends like Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings, Bentley continues to give chartbusting albums. In 2009 his album “Feel That Fire” contributed two number one songs including “Sideways” and the lead song. The artist keeps switching between bluegrass and country in his albums and has also collaborated with other industry stars like Mike Eli and Florida Georgia Line in a brief spell as the “Cadillac Three” in 2013. His most recent endeavor “Riser” is often described as the most poignant and thoughtful of his collections and has therefore attracted a lot of publicity. The album drew inspiration from the death of his father and from the loss of innocent lives at the Sandy Hook School killings. The song “Here on Earth” epitomizes the singer’s heartfelt sorrow at the two tragedies and the album became hugely popular after being nominated for various awards.
