Rebecca Wang is a senior at Pepperdine, majoring in international studies, and will also be performing Polovtsian Dances of Borodin, The Moldau of Smetana, and Symphony No. 4 as composed by Beethoven. The concert will be directed by Tony Cason, a visiting music professor at the university, who is also their orchestra’s conductor alongside being the music coordinator. The Orchestra presents several concerts all year round including operas, musical theater and symphonic concerts. Their soloists include world recognized faculty performances, alongside extraordinary student soloists that have been chosen through the Osborn concerto competition. Pepperdine Orchestra has been coming up with interesting productions throughout their seasons, such that can challenge their student musicians who are more than eager to take the opportunity to widen their repertoire as well as to collaborate with many professional musicians. The conductor of Pepperdine Orchestra Masterworks Concert, Tony Cason joined the Pepperdine University in 2005. He has appeared among the most prominent symphonies such as Boston Pops Orchestra, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Pops, the Indianapolis Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition he has led the US Army Band in several countries including South Korea, Australia, Norway, Sweden, and Scotland, and has also conducted bands in England, Canada, Spain, South Korea, and Australia. He has been on many recordings as well as television broadcasts, which include the Olympic Opening Ceremonies of 1996 and 2002, special events of the National Mall, Christmas in Washington, Kennedy Center Honors, A Capitol Fourth, and at the inauguration galas and inaugurations for US Presidents Williams Jefferson Clinton and George W. Bush.
Cason has presented at the White House, and has also played alongside some of America’s most recognized artists including Duke Ellington, Elvis Presley, Arturo Sandoval, Doc Severinson, Louie Bellson, James McCracken, John Williams, and Jesseye Norman. He has wonderfully led his ensembles in concerts at prestigious local, national and international music conferences such as the Brevard Music Center, Massachusetts Educators Music Association, Virginia Music Educators Association, Indiana Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, International Double Reed Conference, International Clarinet Conference, Music Educators National Conference, Midwest Orchestra and Band Clinic, American Bandmasters Association, and American Choral Directors Association. He has also been the Principal Music Director at Virginia’s International Military Tattoo located in Norfolk.
