Born in the year 1987, Luka Sulic is the younger one, aged twenty five. Hailing from Slovenia, Sulic’s family is full of cellists and people who appreciated and love music. As a result, Sulic started playing and practicing the cello since the age of five. By the time he was fifteen years old, he enrolled himself in a music academy located in Zagreb becoming one of the youngest students of the school. After graduating from there at the age of eighteen,
Sulic continued his education under the apprenticeship of Professor Latzko in Zurich and then moved on to entering into the Royal Academy of Music located in the city of London, in order to complete his Masters Degree. He is known to perform in the cellist duo named 2cellos and also hold solo performances on an international level, playing all over the world in concerts and musical competitions. Sulic has won the first prizes in the Warsaw 2009 VII Lutoslawski International Cello Competition, the Royal Academy of Music Patron’s Competition held at the Wigmore Hall in 2011 and the 2006’s European Broadcasting Union New Talent Competition. He has been seen playing with numerous orchestras such as the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, the Russian Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
The second member of 2cellos is Stjepan Hauser, who is also a Croatian cellist. Born in 1986, in a town named Pula, Hauser also started playing the cello since a very young age, being from a musician family. Hauser has been able to earn worldwide fame and recognition at the age of twenty six. Hauser started his musical education after he moved to London. He entered himself into the Royal Northern College of Music present in the city of Manchester and then shifted to the United States to learn under the apprenticeship of the great Bernard Greenhouse. Hauser has performed at various venues ever since 2011 such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Wigmore Hall, the South Bank Centre and the Royal Albert Hall. He too, like Sulic has won numerous prestigious competitions and received various awards such as the NYOS Staffa Award which he received in 2009, Frankopan Fund Award in 2006 and VTB Capital Prize for Young Cellists in 2009 and the MBF Music Education Awards for 2005 and 2006.
