With Will Berman, Sonic Boom, Ben Goldwasser, Matthew Asti, Andrew VanWyngarden and James Richardson the band was born out of the University of Weselyn by Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, the others only joining them after their debut album release, ‘Oracular Spectacular’. Released in 2008, the band’s debut album stood at the top of the Billboard charts, 12th on the UK chart and even on Australian Charts it was on number six. The album was also titled as the decade’s 18th Best Album by the critically acclaimed music magazine, the Rolling Stone. Prior to the formation of MGMT, the founding members of the band, Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden in 2005 released an album titled ‘Climbing to New Lows’, an album that encouraged them to grow the band into a six member band allowing the four live band members to be a part of the band in the studio.
Just one album down and a year after its release MGMT saw itself winning the esteemed, the Grammy in 2009 for their remix of the first album’s second single, ‘Electric Fee’. Again in 2010 the band not just released their second album titled ‘Congratulations’ but also got nominated for the Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards.

Moving on, recently in the year 2010 the band also appeared in some of the famous late night shows namely the ‘Late Night Show with Craig Ferguson’, ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ and ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’. Again in 2010 the band performed on the Radio 1’s show, The Big Weekend.
