Korn is a five member band and features the talents of Jonathan Davis on lead vocals and occasionally bag pipes, James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch on guitars, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu on the bass and Ray Luzier on the drums. Keyboardist Zac Baird has been a long term collaborator and is currently touring with the group as well. Their only former member is David Silveria, who was a founding member of the group and remained Korn’s drummer from 1993 to 2006, before quitting.
Korn can trace its formation back to a band called ‘LAPD.’ Three members from LAPD, David Silveria, Reginald Arvizu and James Shaffer formed the metal band Korn after inducting Brian Welch and Jonathan Davis to the lineup.
Korn released its first demo album, tilted Neidermayer’s Mind, in 1993. The following year, they released their self-titled debut album and followed that up with their sophomore record, Life is Peachy in 1996. Their second album was a major hit and peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and charted in English speaking countries around the world. Both of the band’s first two albums have been certified double platinum in the US.
Korn’s 1998 album, Follow the Leader, was one of the most successful records of that year and brought the band mainstream success. It became their first album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 and topped the charts in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Considered the band’s flagship album, Follow the Leader is considered to have introduced nu metal to the mainstream public. Supported by hit songs like “Freak On A Leash” and “Got the Life,” the album went on to be certified five times platinum in the US.
Their follow up 1999 album, Issues, followed the path of its predecessor and debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart as well. Issues was the band’s last number one hit on the Billboard 200 and went on to be certified triple platinum in the US.
The turn of the century brought Korn even more success and its 2002 album, titled Untouchables became a huge hit followed by another hit record, Take a Look in the Mirror, in 2003. The band went on to release five more albums, bringing their total up to twelve. Korn’s latest album, The Paradigm Shift, came out in October 2013 and was another success on the charts, peaking at number eight on the Billboard 200. The album reached the top ten on four other charts worldwide.
