In 1997, an unfortunate event forced them to settle down at Nashville, it was when their father resigned from preaching and divorced his wife. By shifting to Nashville, the boys got the chance to do what their church preacher father, Ivan Leon Followill, had denied for them previously. There they met Angelo Petragila in 1999 who helped them carve their song writing skills and introduced them to the genres of alternative, southern and garage rock. Within months a band was formed with addition of the younger Followill and a cousin. And to honor their father and grandfather, the band was named as the “Kings of Leon”.

 

 

The band released their first record in 2003 and received much exposure needed for the successful release of their first album Youth and Young Manhood. The album received encouraging reviews from the US critics, but the response from UK and Ireland was awesome. The album was declared to be one of the best debut albums of the last 10 years by NME and the band was invited for a UK tour same year. Kings of Leon released their 2^nd album Aha Shake Heartbreak in the UK and gained more international acclaim and audience. And finally their 4^th album Only by the Nights, reached at the top spot in the UK Albums Chart and 5^th on the Billboard Charts. The track “Sex on Fire” was declared to be number 1 in the Hottest 100 poll 2008 and won a Grammy Award and many other awards in the same year. Kings of Leon gained mammoth sized popularity with years.
