Counting Crows Toad The Wet Sprocket
Counting Crows originated in 1991 and broke in to the mainstream scene three years later with their debut album, “August and Everything After”. Due to the single Mr. Jones, the album became a huge hit and cemented the group’s position as the new sensation in pop-rock music circles. In a successful career spanning more than two decades, the Counting Crows have sold more than twenty million albums worldwide. Their Grammy and Academy award nominated song, Accidently in Love, featured in the movie Shrek 2. This single alone has sold more than a million copies.
In 2008, the band released “Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings”. The album brought out a new side of the ensemble. Initially, Counting Crows were renowned for their ability to balance the dire lyrics written by Duritz with seventies and eighties rock sounds. In this album, the group divided their music into two halves; with one half more upbeat and energetic, focusing on Saturday night celebrations and the other mellower and focusing on Sunday morning hangovers.
Their latest album so far is “Underwater Sunshine” that came out in 2012. Another album is scheduled to be released this year, “Somewhere under Wonderland”. In the upcoming performance the band members might just give a reflection of this new album’s songs. Get to the concert and see for yourself.
The other music act scheduled to perform with Counting Crows is ‘Toad the Wet Sprocket’. An equally popular alternative rock music act, this band came into being in 1986 and released their debut album, “Bread and Circus” in 1989. The album produced two hit singles, One Little Girl and Walk Away, which both charted on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.
The sophomore record by the band came out in the following year and yielded two more hits on the Modern Rock Tracks. The breakthrough for the group, however, came with their third album, “Fear”, which was released in 1991. With two Top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, the album went on to be certified platinum.
Toad the Wet Sprocket started touring heavily and made a name for themselves as an entertaining live performance act. In 1994, the ensemble released another album, titled “Dulcinea”, which was also a platinum hit. This album produced the number one single on US Modern Rock chart, Fall Down. By now Toad the Wet Sprocket had become one of the most successful alternative rock bands in the country. The band produced contemporary folk-pop melodies that enveloped modern rock as well as adult contemporary music genres.
Currently, the band members include Glen Phillips as the lead vocalist and guitarist, Todd Nichol as lead guitarist, Dean Dinning as bassist and Randy Guss as the drummer. In its successful career spanning almost three decades now, Toad the Wet Sprocket has released six studio albums, three compilation albums (including the gold certified “In Light Syrup”), two live EPs and numerous other singles. Their latest album, “New Constellation” came out in October 2013 and continued the band’s legacy of giving out hits. Now you can see these talented artists live on stage.
