Beginnings of a promising group
The famous hard rock and post-grunge act was originally formed as a quartet in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania in 1999. The initial lineup consisted of the band’s lead singer and namesake Benjamin Burnley with drummer Jeremy Hummel and former Lifer members, bassist Mark Klepaski and guitarist Aaron Fink. Playing around the Pennsylvania area they soon attracted the attention of local radio. A self-made EP materialized some time later leading to their first major label deal signing with the Hollywood Records.
Breaking Benjamin ruling the charts
Rising hard rockers at the time, the band released their debut album Saturate in 2002. Burnley’s vocals and songwriting were the highlights of this project that turned out to be a modest success. Sophomore album We Are Not Alone saw the act climb noticeably higher on the charts but it wasn’t until their 2006 album Phobia that they snatched the attention of music lovers and established themselves as a force to reckon with on the hard rock scenario. The album charted at number two on “The Billboard 200” and achieved platinum status. It also gave the band their first number one hit on the “Mainstream Rock” chart in the form of the single, “Breath.”
Keeping the ball rolling
Dear Agony was the fourth studio effort for the band and it managed to carry on the streak of success that was earning the band legions of followers. The album charted at number four on “The Billboard 200” and grabbed the number one spot on the “Top Hard Rock Albums” chart.
An extensive touring season followed at the heels of this project where the band toured with the likes of Three Days Grace and Nickelback. Compilation album Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin was released in 2011 and scored the top spot on the “Hard Rock Albums” chart. Legal disputes and Burnley’s failing health led to a lengthy hiatus soon after, from which the band reemerged in 2014, sporting a reformed lineup that featured only Burnley from the original.
Dark Before Dawn grabs the spotlight
Breaking Benjamin surprised the music world with their fifth studio album Dark Before Dawn. The twelve-track album shot to number one on “The Billboard 200” and earned much praise from leading entertainment websites. It proved to be a commercial and critical hit selling over 140,000 copies in its first week. The project also yielded three Billboard charting singles “Failure,” “Defeated” and “Angels Fall.” The first of these became the highest-charting single from the album featuring at number eight on the “Rock Songs” chart.
The acclaimed rock act is currently on tour supporting the album. They continue to make headlines on the tour with one fabulous performance after the next, including an incredibly successful gig before their home crowd at the Pavilion at the Montage Mountain. This is the first time that the band’s newly reformed lineup is performing together on stage and if the ticket demand and the roaring success of the previous gigs is any indication, this trek is going to be a huge one for these popular hard rockers.
