Formed in 2002, Arctic Monkeys is a Sheffield based indie rock band. It consists of four members; Jamie Cook on lead guitar, Alex Turner on vocals, Matt Helders on drum and Nick O’Malley on bass guitar. Shortly after formation, the band started doing rehearsals at Yellow Arch Studios and played its first ever gig at The Grapes in 2003. In 2004, the band came up with its demo album consisting of seventeen tracks, which was burnt onto the CDs and distributed for free at the gigs. The band owes their early success to its fans, who spread their music on internet, making Arctic Monkeys a known presence on MySpace. The band’s popularity started growing in north and it started getting the attention of BBC Radio and the press.
The band released its first EP, “Five Minutes with Arctic Monkeys” in May, 2005. It featured the Fake Tales of San Francisco and From the Ritz to the Rubble. Following this release, the band performed to the sold out crowd at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. In June, 2005, the band signed to the Domino Records, on which their first single to be released was I Bet You Look Good on the Dance floor. It charted at number one on the UK Indie Chart and served as the lead single for their debut studio album “Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not”, which was released in January, 2006.
The album was an instant hit in the UK, Australia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and Denmark. Selling more than 360,000 copies within the first week of its release, it became one of the fastest selling albums of the music history. It the US, the album peaked at number one on the US Independent Albums chart and entered the US Billboard 200 at number 24. Their second EP “Who the Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys” came out in April, 2006 and was followed by their second studio album “Favorite Worst Nightmare”, which hit the stores in 2007. The album charted at number one in the UK and at number seven in the US, where it sold 44,000 copies in the first week of release. After a brief hiatus, the band’s third album “Humbug” came out in 2009. Like the two previous albums, it peaked at number one on the UK Albums Chart. Following this, they went on their first worldwide tour dubbed the Humbug Tour. “AM” released in September, 2013 is the band’s latest album, which has peaked at number one in seven countries and has sold more than 197,000 copies in the US so far.
Formed in 2006, White Denim is a four-piece band that has released six studio albums. They will be joining Arctic Moneys on their upcoming tour. The band’s latest album is “Corsicana Lemonade”, which was released in 2013. The album sold 3000 copies in the first week of its release and reached number four on the US Heatseekers chart.
